Concept

Why the name Arshinagar?

Lalan was a humanitarian saint, who put humanity above all kinds of differences prevailing in society. From this non-sectarian attitude, he composed his songs. His songs and philosophy influenced commoners to intellectuals for ages. His philosophy influenced many poets, novelists, and intellectuals like Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Allen Ginsberg.

His songs are timeless. These songs of Lalan are still sung by many musicians throughout the ages.

Also, he was bestowed upon the title ‘Mahatma’, 25 years before Gandhi, first in the Indian subcontinent.

The philosophy of Lalan

Lalon’s songs revolve around the lives of common people and their society. Lalan humbly believed that a “Moner Manush” (মনের মানুষ) or “Achin Pakhi”( অচিন পাখি) resides in every living being on this planet. “Achin Pakhi” is found through the sadhana of the earthly body that basically leads to ‘Nirvana’, or gain ‘Moksha’ or ‘Mahamukti’ or self-enlightenment.

Who is Lalan Fakir?

Lalan found a village near Kushtia with the people who followed his philosophy. The name of which became “Arshinagar”. We dream that our society fills up with Lalan’s philosophy of self-enlightenment around us. We are inspired by Lalan’s songs and philosophy.

Why Shilogram?

It is our intention to create a larger circle and build upon the synergy with the people from nearby villages to promote sustainability. The villagers will learn modern farming methods from us and become self-employed. In the same way, cow’s milk from our dairy, organically prepared vegetables, and fish will attract our guests.

Shilpogram will organize a হাট (market/Bazaar/mart) every Saturday where these villagers will sell their products*.
